Turok 2

Saturday, January 01, 2000 by Shamino || [0 Comments]

Overall: 4
Graphics: 4
Interface: 4
The only reason why I ever played the original Turok was because it was a 3DFX only game back when it came out. I think I was the only one in my group with a 3DFX card at the time so I was pretty proud of being able to play it and experience the awesome graphics it had. I never had a clue on the storyline and honestly I still don't. I watched the intro for Turok II and I thought it was pretty killer. Still had no idea about the storyline, but a good intro nontheless. So here is my technical assessment of Turok II.

Graphics/Display:

Very nice graphics. No lag or chug on my 333A/ Voodoo II. Texturing was awesome. Dino monsters were drawn great and their movement was highly realistic. (If such beasts existed heh) When you shot a dino with your arrows you can see the arrow lodged in the bad guy and blood pouring out. It's truly awesome what they did for this game. If you missed the dino, you could go pick your arrow out of the wall or wherever your bad aim put it. I've only experienced a few weapons and I found the revolver to be quite effective against the lesser dinos.

Interface/Controls:

Typical controls for a FPS. Nothing really special that I can think of. I think it had some added features but didn't explore them too much. I really liked how when you climbed up a ladder, the way the screen bobbed around was just like you would expect it to be in real life. Very realistic. I think my cheif complaint would be I never could find a way to manually crank up the mouse sensitivity beyond the scope of the settings menu. (Like when you set sensitivity in Quake2)

Multiplayer (if any):

x

Summary:

While I haven't made it very far in this game I was truly impressed with it. I found it to be a little too realistic and had to quit playing it at one time because it started making me sick. I don't even try to watch someone else try to play it. Since I put the storyline aside, I would say if you were a fan of the original Turok then you are gonna be a fan of Turok II. The improvements to the gameplay as well as graphics are worth it alone.
