Falcon 4.0

This long awaited sequel couldn't have come at a better time. I loved the old Falcon 3.0 but never took the time to sit down with and actually play a campaign. I probably won't do it with Falcon 4.0 either but it would be due to time constraints. The game certainly holds your interest.

One of my biggest gripes in most siumlations is realism. When I talk about realism I think of how the plane handles, how it sounds, and how the ground looks as it rushes up to meet you when you try to pull off an unreal maneuver. Just taking off and landing (well attempted a landing) looks awesome. Things move quickly as they should in a supersonic machine such as the F-16 without having to use the time acceleration feature.

Falcon 4.0 comes with all the usual style. Campaigns, Instant Action, and lots of schematics to check out if you are interested. The learning curve is pretty steep unfortunately making it a game that you really need to allocate some time for before sitting down in front of your computer. If you just want to click Instant Action and shoot down some baddies, then go for it. Just make sure you memorize some keys first.

I'd say the graphics are the most impressive thing to the game. The ground is awesome. It just looks real. I opted for the Voodoo II rather than the TNT for this game. There is a high res feature if you want to take it to 1024-768 with the TNT but I was pretty happy with 800X600 so I never tried it. Overall, I give this game a thumbs up, but if your not a simulator fanatic you're gonna crash and burn.
