Redline: Gangwarfare 2006

Saturday, January 01, 2000 by Pyro

Overall: 3
Graphics: 3
Interface: 3
Redline takes the two games Quake II, and Carmageddon, and combines them to make a very interesting offshoot. While it has the concepts of both games, it still lacks a bit. It's kinda fun to be able to drive around and shoot people (the one thing Carmageddon lacks), and certain areas in the game require you to exit your vehicle and chase down your enemy on foot.

I wasn't very impressed with the graphics, especially the "in car" view. The surrounding area graphics (mountains, buildings, etc) are awesome and well done, but as usual as of late, the view from within the car was lacking.

Interface can be joystick/keyboard and mouse. While the out of car portion of the game is rather easy especially if you have played alot of Quake II (I've got blisters on my fingers!), the in car view control is a bit difficult to get the hang of effectively. Driving was easiest using the keyboard, while using the mouse to "freelook" while aiming. The sounds where pretty average. Engine sounds, weapon sounds, explosions. Nothing that really was earthshattering.

Multiplayer (if any):

I fooled around with multiplayer a bit when the demo was out, and it looked as if it has great possibilities. I still need to give it a try though. Hmm maybe after we whoop on FUNK Saturday, we can give this a whirl!
